We Welcome Fall!!!!

Gathering Leaves

by Robert Frost

Spades take up leaves, No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves, Are light as balloons.
I make a great noise, Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer, Running away.
But the mountains I raise, Elude my embrace,
Flowing over my arms, And into my face.
I may load and unload, Again and again
Till I fill the whole shed, And what have I then?
Next to nothing for weight, And since they grew duller
From contact with earth, Next to nothing for color.
Next to nothing for use. But a crop is a crop,
And who's to say where, The harvest shall stop?

It is fall in Indiana, and we welcome it with open, happy arms! Embracing all the lovely things that come with it. My favorite season. EVERY YEAR! So many wonderul things happen in fall. Super Weather, start of Football, Beautiful colors, Apples, Pumpkins, fiddle and dulcimer music, candy corn, Thanksgiving, Christmas Shopping, first snow, crisp clean air. Are you feeling it??? Mmmmm.... Fall. Gotta love it.

So, this weekend ended up being a great weekend! Even though I missed the big game, and Notre Dame ended up Beating the cleated socks off of Purdue with out me there to witness it...It was good. We spent some great time with our families. Here are some pictures, but please forgive me for not having more of Brian's family. The battery on Gertie the camera was dying :(

And Don't forget to sign up below for a snowman for your very own with love from The Shaw's!

The only tree on the block with turned leaves is ours! It must be feeling my vibes. Isn't God gracious and good to give me this awesome tree?

And so it begins. Isaac found a bag of stockpile items that I was getting ready to take to the Shaw's. He fell in love. He and Abbie already love my coupons. Now, we have found a new use for the many tubes of toothpaste and Robitussin!!!

Starting them early...Gotta love seeing the money making power in the hands of someone so tiny. Think of all the ways that she will prosper her house! By the way, she is holding my mom's new coupon organizer that I made her for her B-day!

My sisters and I...and check out my new do. If you can see it...spikey in the back.

Brian reading the Cracker Book to Katie. Oh the things that intrigue a 29 year old man and an almost 2 year old little girl.

The Craker Book up close. This was actually a coupon/recipe flyer I found at Meijer. Katie was really into the couponing thing.

So sorry that this is not a good picture. They were getting ready to pose for Mrs Shaw, and I snapped it...it is the only one I have. So my kids just have to look yucky in it!

Brian preached on Sunday. It was the first time in 9 months that he had, which was filled with many emotions for both of us. He pulled out his Pastor Brian Bible. For any of you that know Brian, you will remember that he stored this Bible away when he resigned from New Hope, and said that he would only use it when he preached or became a Pastor again. He cried when he did this. It was very heartbreaking to watch. I was so suprised to look down on the pew beside me, and see this. I must have looked like an idiot to be taking a picture of a Bible in the middle of the church, but it brought me to tears.

Crushed...

Ever had something that just crushed your day. That just made you so sad??? This is such a silly thing in the grand scheme of life, but it was so crushing!

Today, I was offered 2 tickets to see Purdue play AT NOTRE DAME! Seriously. The dream that I have longed for. I was so excited, b/c I thought the game was NEXT weekend! My heart was soaring. I could not believe how God had provided!!!! There is no way that we could have ever afforded these tickets. And they were being given to us!

Then, I realized that it was this weekend. We have plans this weekend with family.

I was crushed...and cried for at least an hour. I still get that feeling in my throat like I want to cry. Trying to move past it, and find something else to be happy about, but I can not believe it. I can not believe that a dream like that would be presented and then taken away. (Rather melodramatic huh? :P) Anyhow...just thought that I would share my heartache with you all today...and don't forget to leave your Christmas memory below so that you can win a snowman! :)

Dedicated to Kelly---And a Giveaway!

I came back to change how I worded this, b/c I so was not sensitive first time around. Please forgive me Kelly!!! My lightheartedness got away from me, like it does occasionally! Anyhow, my dear friend Kelly, is facing a Christmas without her darling hubby. He will be serving our country in Iraq...again. Please keep Kelly, Dan, and their family in your prayers!

I did get to thinking why is it so important to me that we have decorations up for Christmas? I can not think of a good reason. LOL. I mean, I KNOW the reason why we celebrate Christmas, and I have decorations that celebrate Christ! But, what about the other...The main reason has to do with childlike magic I feel when I wake up to the lite Christmas tree on cold mornings, drink my coffee sitting in a dark room, with the news on. This is actually a really funny thing, since this is not my normal routine AT ALL! But, as a child, I would wake up every morning in between Thanksgiving and Christmas, to my parents sitting in their jammies...watching the morning news in a dark room lit by the tree. IT was magic to me! (sorry about the major run on sentence.) I still remember that room in every detail. I remember the feeling of driving into our driveway, seeing the tree in front of our door. I remember the smell of the woodburning fireplace in that room, and how everything smelled. I remember the rocking carriage---made by House of Llyod--- that held all the yummy chocolate candies, it sat on top of the tv. It was all part of the magic. That room, those decorations, those smells, the particular memories...that I now try to re-create for my family...are all magic.

I love experiencing "magic" now. There are so many YUCKY things in our lives, that little bit of magic makes life easier. I know that some would think this is a "worldly" way of looking at things, but it is true. While we are to be spiritually mature, having a childlike attitude towards somethings, is so refreshing. (And the Bible says we are to have childlike faith) Kinda like that feeling when you walk onto Main Street at the Magic Kingdom! MAGIC!

So, what is your favorite "Magic" memory of Christmas decorations??? Leave a comment below, and let me know! Winner will receive a treasured snowman from my collection!!! Random winner will be drawn by the next biggest Christmas lover, Abbie, on October 1st!

My friend Sunny posted this giveaway... and I just thought I would share here too. I think that I will actually try to make this one. One for Abbie and Isaac for Christmas. But, I like them as regular little smock shirts for Abs. Hmmmm... What do you think? Click Below...

Be Forwarned----

Good deals are coming your way...or at least the way of anyone who shops at Meijer or CVS!!!

If I am around tomorrow, I will post them then. Otherwise it might not be until Monday. Isaac is really sick, again. Poor little guy. I guess it is the time of year to put him back in his bubble. He did so well over the summer. Made it through with only a few minor colds and 2 stomach bugs. But, tonight, he has a high fever, bad stuffy nose, coughing, AND tummy problems. He has been asleep off and on since 4 this afternoon. Awake long enough to watch about 30 min of a movie, and take medicine. :(

So, I may not make it to church tomorrow, which means COUPONS will abound!!!!

Accountable...

I am trying to be accountable for something, and since both of my accountability partners read my blog, I am going to just write my update here!!!

Homeschooling---It is such a joy...and hardship. There are days when I can't wait to open the text book and see what Abbie and Isaac's next work will be. I love the smell of the books, the weight of them in my hands, and the bright colors. I love how my hand feels as the pencil goes over the slick workbook paper. I love watching lightbulbs go off over my children's heads as they grasp a new concept. I love when Isaac and Abbie surprise their Daddy with a new knowledge and I know that I was the one that helped instill it!!! I love that Abbie can work at her pace, which is so much faster than the norm...and she can get training in areas fit her to a T. But, let's be honest. There are times that it stinks too. I mean, there have to be the hard times, otherwise everyone would do it!!! Most answers I get are, "I just don't think I could DO THAT!" And there are many days that the one little thought, outweighs all of my loves. I get overwhelmed...which is sinful.

SO, I asked for accountability in making sure I get their schoolwork in everyday. And make it enjoyable. We have accomplished it every day this week...but today. Today we had a fussy baby during school hours. Abbie and Isaac had a science project and a service project to do. (I know that this is school too!) So, here it is 5:45. We will eat dinner soon, and then Abbie will finish her paperwork to do. She only has about 30 minutes of actual work, as she has already gotten the time consuming stuff done.

Just being accountable. :)

So This Is Love....

I love the song Bring the Rain. " Maybe since my life was changed, Long before these rainy days" and "What's a little rain?" These words LEAP out to me. Our married life has been filled with looming Thunderstorms. Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Mudslides, Earthquakes,...you name it. And lots of rain. We have not had a typical mushy gushy love. We have fought for what we knew God wanted. And we have grown in the rain. God has blossomed us as individuals and our united marriage. I am so grateful for this. I am thankful for my husband. He is my earthly rock.

Today, I woke up to a simple note on my desk, and a large planter of mums. I love mums. They just shout FALL! The note was just perfect. Hand written while he was at work. Smudged in black on the corners, from his dirty fingers. Torn notebook paper. But, that made it all the more special. I loved the black effect on the edges. It reminded me how hard he works for us.

Here is the little poem he wrote for me...about my blog. Funny huh?

The Blog
a short poem
For Annie
From Brian

My wife and her Blog
The bump on a log
The moments recorded
The photos sorted
A proud, loving mommy
Her pertinent hobby
Our children remembered
Too little thought rendered
The music of Glory
Her continuing story
The beauty of life
Through the eyes of my wife.

Wasn't that sweet??? Brian did well. The other part of the note stated Happy 2920 days of being married. And then he went on to list 50 things that he was thankful for about me. I will not write them here, because then I would majorly conceited! But, I will share some photos of the day that we promised forever. Oh--I forgot to say Happy Anniversary, Baby.

And It Fell...

Do you remember way back to June??? When I wrote about a tree branch needing to fall? And Brian trying to lasso it, and made a bungy swing for the kids instead??? Here is the link if you need to refresh your memory...

Well Done Lord---June entry

So, the branch fell today after Ike came along! Bri
an told me that it would not fall on the house. And it didn't. Kind of fell straight down. And, I have no idea why this text is all underlined. It wont let me stop. Wierd.

Never Forgets...

I remember the news broadcaster stating that it was day that we would never forget. It was a day that changed our nation forever...

I will never forget glaring at the tv as I watched the second plane hit.

I will never forget our inspector for the house being high, and making the comment, "Man that is totally wicked." He did not know how right he was. We closed on the house 2 days later.

I will never forget sitting in the basement of the blue house (Brian's mom and dad's)...waking up Justin to talk to him about it all, and waiting for the rest to get home.

I will never forget rubbing my bulging tummy (8 months pg) and wondering what the world would be like for my little girl.---Would she have to know the fear of other countries invading hers???

I will never forget getting gas and waiting in a line for 37 min. People were in a panic.

I will never forget Brian going out on foot to find me, b/c I had been gone for over 45 min. And he was quite mad at himself for letting his pg wife venture out alone in the mayhem.

I will never forget coming home, and not finding Brian. I thought the rapture had taken place. Seriously...and I had been left behind. Then I felt Abbie kick inside of me...and figured she would have been taken too.

I will never forget starting to panic when I realized that the rapture did not take place, but my hubby was still missing. I started looking everywhere, even the trash cans...just in case. He showed up shortly after.

I will never forget driving to Indy for class. It had not been canceled, so we had to drive into town. Traffic was horrid, and people were just not nice to each other during the rush hour. It was scary...classes had been canceled by the time we got there. We sat and watched the news with the rest of the student body.

I will never forget putting out a candles on my front porch as my house in Covington. Lighting each one of them...saying a prayer for those still unrescued and the families...and our country. And asking Brian if I had done it too early, since others still had to light theirs. I remember Justin hugging my shoulders as I stood on our front porch...asking me not to cry. I remember that was the night that we moved away from Covington...and driving away, I sobbed. My entire world had changed. I remember looking back through the rearveiw mirror at the town of lights. It was sureal, humbling, and patriotic. Amazing...

I will never forget putting my first survival box together. With plastic to tape off windows and doors.

Innocense lost.

Paperwork In---We have adopted!!!

Funny funny---We have adopted a boy from China.

Alright---so now that I have your attention, I will let you know that he is a college student. lol. We have partnered with International Students and Scholars, and have "adopted" a student for the next 5 years. His name is Suli. He is just off the plane new to the States. We are so excited about this opportunity to minister to him, and to take part of his culture also.

He will live on campus, and we will be the ones to show him the area. We are the ones that he can call when he is homesick...and we are the ones that show him all about American traditions. Should be a fun and interesting adventure!

How Cool---

So, Brian got a phone call in the middle of the night. Well, his night. LOL--it was technically 12 pm.

It was the college that he is finishing out his degree. They called to let him know that added a class to their schedule. It just happens to be a night class. And it just happens to be the GREEK that he needs to finish out his degree!!!! (Brian should have been able to finish his degree w/o this, but the school added Greek to the required courses last year... blah) So, I guess that we are officially back in school again. Twice a week trips to Indy. Gas is going to be pricey for sure. Please pray with us as we take on this endeavor. Pray for our car, as we are not sure if it will hold up. Please pray that the extra money needed for gas will make it's way into our hands. We have already been blessed with a way to make up for a little over a 1/3 of the expenses. Now, we just need the other 2/3~

We are so excited though. Brian is thrilled that he will walk the aisle and even more excited that his grandparents will get to see it. Thanks for keeping us in your thoughts!

My deals that I am going to do this week:

So, every week, several people ask what deals I am going to do. :) I love deals. I think that I learned this behavior from my Grandpa...as he was a deal finder too.

Do It Soft...

Funny the lessons that we learn from children.

Tonight, Isaac got into trouble. He blatantly disobeyed, and Brian sent him to his room to await his discipline. On the way to his room, he was begging for mommy to discipline him instead of Daddy. He had to wait there a few minutes, as Aunt Sara was leaving. When Brian went back there, Isaac was begging for there to be no result. Of course, that did not fly. He then sweetly asked Brian, "Please do it soft." After Brian was finished...Isaac looked up at Brian and told him, "Thank you Daddy...You did a Good Job." Little sobs coming from in between words.

I think about our Father. How there are times that He has to discipline us... and our response is normally kicking and screaming. And how when it is over, we normally respond with anger and bitterness. I now have a solid example of responding with, "Thank You Lord for that lesson." And I suppose that it is not dishonoring to God, to ask for the discipline to be soft, huh? Just a random thought...

Meet My New Friend...

I just wanted to introduce you to my new friend.

He is rather lovely.
Dark Brown.
Kinda curvy.
Intense.
And rather Bold.
He is so rich that he melts in your mouth.
Remarkably unique.
He is not a good friend of the spend thrift, but this thrifty girl will make an exception.
Quite Indulgent.
Will cause me to loose myself and gain myself all in one.

He is the Starbucks Espresso Truffle. Dark Chocolate with a Truffle center. Infused with Starbucks Espresso. And so stinking yum. You can taste the coffee bean. Oh, and the thing that makes this girl even more in love, they were free at CVS using ECB's.

Sick...

Funny, that two of my friends are sick also...The great Kelly from HP and Sunny from Covington!

But, sickness has found it's way here. I was the last one to receive the blessing. Isaac has been struggling with it for a couple of weeks. Abbie had it for 2 days. And Brian is at the tail end.

I have tummy troubles, along with the head that feels so heavy that it will fall off my head. Add to that...some crazy thing that happens with my blood vessels. Every once in a while, my blood vessels will burst, leaving a large black spot in it's place. No reason, other than poor circulation. I have had these things as large as a softball before. This time, the vessels burst at my knee and on my foot of all places. I spent the better part of the afternoon looking at my foot and trying to figure out how it got that dirty! (Not in my right mind b/c my head is pounding.) I then showed it to Brian who also tried to rub off the dirt. Realizing that it was not rubbing off, and that it was starting to hurt, the light bulb went off. And then I remembered the water balloon popping feeling that I had in my knee last night. Whenever one of these things happen, it seriously feels like a water balloon pops inside of my leg. Tight and pressure...then pop and fluid. Strange.

So, all that to say that I feel yucky. And I have so much work to do this week. Trying to get the house ready for sell...or just for some friends to come over and help. And I am already tired. Blah. Brian is on overdrive. Working every extra minute he has on the house...and then 60+ hours at work. But, it will be worth it all in the end. For now, I am going to go get jammies on, and go to bed early. Thanks for letting me whine some. :)
